COUGAR COACHES


Head Coach, Rudy Rangel

In 2015, Rudy Rangel enters his eleventh year at The Colony High School and marks his ninth year as the Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator for the Cougars.

Coach Rangel is in his 21st year of coaching with previous stints at Bryan and Navasota High School.  He has several players currently playing collegiate football including Grant Blankenship at Notre Dame, Bryan Hammond, David Shin and Myles Benning all playing at the US Naval Academy, Justin Jinning at the University of Iowa, and Gerald Thomas who plays at Sam Houston State.  This year marks the largest graduating class moving on to play collegiate football, with 10 athletes signing football scholarships totaling over $1.5 million dollars in scholarship money.  Overall, in the eight years that Coach Rangel has been at the helm, the Cougars have placed over 63 players into the college football ranks.

Coach Rangel graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena, Texas in 1992, where he played both football and baseball.  He went on to Sam Houston State University where he earned his degree in Kinesiology and coached as a volunteer at Huntsville High School helping the football and baseball programs.

Coach Rangel enters his ninth year as a head coach.  The 2014 Cougars finished with the best season in school history finishing 9-4 and Area Champions.  Coach Rangel believes in every athlete that plays for him and his primary interest is in developing quality young men both on and off the field.  ďI believe in the community of The Colony, the student athletes and administration of The Colony High School.  I look forward to an exciting season of Cougar Football and want to encourage our city to come out and support not only the football program, but all programs at The Colony High School.  Our athletes understand what a privilege it is to represent their city and they work extremely hard to represent the community the right way.Ē

The Rangel family includes his wife of 15 years, Patricia, a teacher at Peterís Colony Elementary in The Colony, and three children, Kayla, Kacie and Trey.  Kayla, 14 years old will attend The Colony High School. Kacie, 10 years old, will be a 5th Grader Morningside Elementary in The Colony.  Trey is 8 years old and will be a 2nd Grader at Peter's Colony elementary and be in the dual language program.


Assistant Head - Defensive Coordinator, Coach Scott Johnson

Coach Johnson is married to his lovely wife Julie and has three beautiful children.  Dailee 16, Darcee 14, and Jaicee 7.  Coach Johnson has nineteen years coaching experience and has been with The Colony High School for six years.  Prior coaching stops included the schools of Marcus, La Marque, Danbury and Hooker (OK).  Coach Johnson has coached in and won two State Championships and played for another. Coach Johnson earned his degree from South Western Oklahoma State University and attended Hobart High School, in Hobart Oklahoma.  He is currently teaching Outdoor Education.  Family and coaching keeps Coach Johnson too busy for any serious hobbies


Offensive Coordinator - Associate Head, Coach John Killuogh

Coach Killough is in his fourth year at The Colony HS. He is the Offensive Coordinator at TCHS. Prior to coaching at The Colony, Coach Killough coached at Marcus HS for the past five years, and La Marque HS where he won a State Championship in 2006.  Coach Killough has a Bachelorís degree in Mathematics from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor where he was an All Conference offensive lineman for the Crusaders and part of the first ever American Southwest Conference Champions for the Cru.  John has been married two his lovely wife Amanda for 10 years.  He has too beautiful children- Case and his twin sister Peyton that are 3.


Offensive Line Coach Offensive Special Teams Coordinator, Adam Alexander

Adam graduated from East Central University with a Bachelor's degree in History and a Masterís degree in secondary administration.  He has coached for 10 years and is currently entering into his 3rd year at The Colony.  He is married to Kelly Alexander and they have two daughters, Madelyn 13, and Emma 7.  He is currently teaching World Geography.  He enjoys spending time with his kids and playing golf.


Defensive Special Teams Coordinator, Defensive Ends Coach, Matthew Bush

Matthew is entering his 9th year as a teacher/coach.  He has coached at Tom Bean High School, Allen High School, and Wylie East High School, and this is his second year at The Colony.  Coach Bush enjoys spending time with his family which includes his wife Jennifer and their three children: Bryson, Jaden, and Zoe.  He also loves playing and watching sports of all kinds. Coach Bush's love for sports and the many life lessons they teach is one reason he loves coaching and teaching young men through the game of football. Matthew graduated from Temple High School in 2001.  He attended UMHB where he was a four year letterman, an All-American, and an Academic All-American football player.  He also received the Rimington Award for the best center in the nation.


Safety Coach, Clay Ferguson

Clay graduated from Texas Tech in 2007 with his bachelor's degree and graduated from The United States Sports Academy in 2008 with his Master's.  Clay is entering his second year with The Colony.  Prior to coming to TC he was the Varsity Corners coach at Copperas Cove HS for four years and at Sulphur Springs for one season as a freshmen coach.  Clay is married to Stephanie Ferguson, Math teacher at Lakeview MS, and they have a daughter Paisley 2 and expecting another child in December.


Quarterback Coach / Passing Game Coordinator, Jake Gregory

Coach Gregory is originally from Reedley, California where he graduated from Reedley HS in 1995.  After high school he played football at Reedley College, then at Southern Utah University where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree.  Coach Gregory is entering his 15th year of teaching/coaching and has previously coached at Antelope Valley HS in Lancaster, CA and Lake Havasu HS in Lake Havasu City, AZ. During that time Coach Gregory completed his Masters of Education Degree from Azusa Pacific University, coached multiple sports, spent two years as the Head Girls Basketball Coach and Athletic Director at Antelope Valley HS, and also spent four years as the Offensive Coordinator at Lake Havasu HS.  Coach Gregory is entering his fifth year at The Colony HS and is the Varsity Quarterback Coach and Passing Game Coordinator.  Coach Gregory and his wife Kim have been happily married for 12 years and are the proud parents of 9 year old Logan and 5 year old Makenna.


Cornerback Coach, Matthew Hudson

Matthew has two boys, Drake (10) and Landry (8). Matthew graduated from Flower Mound Marcus high school where he was apart of the 1995 State Finalist team.  He went on to Ouachita Baptist where he got his B.A. in Kinesiology and a split minor in Education/Religion in 2001.  He obtained his Masters in Education Administration from Lamar University. After Graduating College he spent the next 12 years coaching wide receivers at Denton Ryan.  While there, he was apart of the 2010 and 2003 State Finalist, and the 2001 and 2002 State Championship football teams.  His overall record while at Ryan was 130 wins, 31 losses, and 12 consecutive playoff appearances. He was a position coach for three Division One athletes: Justin Fenty Ė Baylor University, DJ Beshears Ė Kansas University, and Bud Sasser - Missouri University/NFL 6th round draft pick to St. Louis Rams.  He is greatly anticipating his third year working for Coach Rangel and The Colony football program.  This will be his 15th year as a Coach and Teacher.  He teaches Special Education and his second sport is soccer.  His hobbies include hunting, fishing, and anything that involves competition.


TE / FB / LB Coach, Running Game Coordinator, Strength & Conditioning Coordinator, Caleb Hunt

Coach Hunt graduated from Italy High School in 1999.  He then attended and graduated from The University of North Texas.  He is married to the beautiful Brooke Hunt and they have two amazing daughters (Haidyn Blake-4 and Carson-2).  Before Coach Hunt arrived at The Colony he spent 4 years at Red Oak as the Running Backs Coach.  Coach Hunt enjoys spending his free time with his family, hunting, and cooking.


Wide Receiver Coach, Josh Pulattie

Coach Pulattie graduated from Denton Ryan High School and was a part of the 2001 and 2002 State Championship teams.  He played football at East Central University in Ada, OK and graduated in 2009 with a degree in Communication.  He is married to Abi, and in his free time likes to travel and spend time outside.


TE / FB / LB Coach, Colby Rogers

Colby graduated from Lewisville High School in 2009. Colby attended Lyon College in Batesville, AR where he majored in History and is currently working on a Masterís degree in Sports Management.  He also played four years of college baseball. This will be his first year at TCHS. He previously coached football and basketball at Hedrick Middle School and baseball at Lewisville High School.  In his spare time, Colby enjoys watching and attending football, basketball, and baseball sporting events.  He especially enjoys watching and supporting his younger brother Blake, who plays in the San Diego Padres organization.


Defensive Tackles Coach, Ben Ramsey

Ben graduated from Texas Tech in 2011 with a degree in Mathematics and a minor in Education. He graduated from Graham High School in 2007, where he played both football and baseball. Ben is entering his first year with The Colony football coaching staff.


Running Back Coach, David Smithey

David graduated from Bells High School in 2004.  While attending Louisiana College, he played Defensive End for four years and majored in sociology, as well as criminal justice.  There he met his beautiful wife Amanda.  Coach Smithey was inducted into the 2008 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.  Coach Smithey previously coached football for two years at Freer High School, where he was the Offensive Line and Defensive Line coach.  He is entering his fourth year coaching football and teaching at TCHS.  He currently has two daughters, Rachel and Leah.


LB Coach, Brandon Grady

Coach Grady graduated from Liberty Christian School in 2007.  He earned a degree in Kinesiology at The University of North Texas.  Coach Grady has 7 years coaching experience at both middle school and high school level.  He is entering his third year at Griffin Middle School and coaches football, basketball, and track.  He is married to Sarah, who has been a supportive and loving wife for 3 years.

 


Athletic Trainer, Tyler Romine

Tyler attended Tyler Junior College from 1999-2001.  He worked with the football, tennis and men's basketball teams.  He graduated from TCU in 2004.  While at TCU he worked with the football and baseball teams.  He is entering his 12th year at The Colony.


Athletic Trainer, Cody Carpenter

Cody graduated from Hawkins High School in 1999.  He graduated from TCU in 2004 with a degree in sports medicine.  2015 will begin Codyís 11th year at TCHS and he looks forward to another great season working with Coach Rangel and the TCHS Football staff.  Cody has one daughter, Grayson, and one son, Jack, that was born in July. He has been married to his wife Kenda for 10 years.

Torin graduated from The Plano East Senior High School in 1990.    He attended Texas Tech University and Fort Hays State University.  He has coached for 11 years. (6 in the Lewisville ISD)  Torinís  family includes his wife Susan, 14 year old son Evan and 12 year old daughter Lauren.

 


TE / Safties Coach, Austin Rodriguez

Coach Rodriguez graduated from Marcus High School in 2007, where he played both football and basketball. Austin graduated from Arizona State University in 2012.  He is entering his third year of coaching receivers and linebackers at Griffin Middle School.

Lakeview Campus Coordinator, Head Football Coach, Whit Cross
Offensive Coordinator / QB & Safties Coach

Whit graduated from Sanger High School in 1994.  He was a five sport letterman and was a Quarterback and Safety in high school.  He graduated from the University of North Texas in 1999.  He has coached football for fourteen years at Lamar and Lakeview Middle School.  He has coached Qb's, Rb's, OL, Lb's and Safeties. Whit's family includes wife Angela, 9 year old son Tyler, 7 year old daughter Tatum and Siberian Husky Sadie.


Defensive Coordinator / RB / LB Coach, Stephen Angus

Coach Angus will be going into his 4th year coaching at Lakeview MS.  He attended Lewisville HS where he played football, baseball, and ran track.  He then graduated from the University of North Texas where he studied Kinesiology.  His hobbies are spending time with his family, friends, and 2 English Bulldogs.  He is married to Katy Angus and they are expecting twins in December.


OL / DL Coach, Brandon Eades

Coach Eades is entering his 5th year of coaching and his 2nd at Lakeview.  He is a graduate of Arlington Martin High School where he played football and ran track.  After graduating from high school he attended Texas Tech University where he graduated with a degree in History. In his coaching career he has coached WRís, LBís, Safeties, and OL.  He has been married for four years to his wife Kayelyn.  His hobbies are spending time with family, friends, and fishing.


WR / CB Coach, Will Verstuyft

Coach Verstuyft is entering in his 4th year of coaching and his 1st at Lakeview.  He is a graduate of Hedley High School where he played football, basketball, tennis, and ran cross country.  He attended West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas, where he received a B.S. degree in Sports and Exercise Science.  He has coached wide receivers and secondary.  His hobbies are running and enjoying sporting events.
